Neighbourhood plans

Neighbourhood planning provides the opportunity for local people to develop a shared vision for the future development and growth of the area they live in. Neighbourhood plans also allow communities to have a direct say about challenges they have identified in their local area. 

Local communities can choose to set planning policies through a Neighbourhood Plan that is used in determining planning applications. These planning policies will be aligned to the strategic policies in East Herts District Plan, but they will highlight the specific needs and priorities of the local area. 

Hertford Castle Plus

In Hertford, Neighbourhood Plans have already been created for Bengeo, Sele and Kingsmead. Now it's the turn of the communities covered by Castle, Kingsmead West and Bengeo South wards. This area will be known as Hertford Castle Plus. 

Following a period of public consultation over Spring 2024, East Herts District Council formally designated Hertford Castle Plus as a Neighbourhood Area in July 2024. The process of creating a Neighbourhood Plan for Hertford Castle Plus has begun and more details will be shared soon.
