‘Hertford Entrepreneur of the Year’

Hertford Town Council encourage local entrepreneurs to enter a new competition, which is set to find the Hertford Entrepreneur of the Year.

Entry to this competition is free of charge and the winner will be awarded a cash prize of £3000.
The £3000 prize has been funded by Cllr Andrew Stevenson’s County Council locality budget.

Cllr Andrew Stevenson said: “I support this award because it gives a much needed boost to small businesses in Hertford. Town centres need to find new ways of regenerating themselves and this encourages entrepreneurial businesses to develop innovative business plans and remain active in the town.
The type of business suited to a town centre location is one that offers an interesting destination, not the old fashioned type of retail business just offering a product that can be purchased online. This needs innovative entrepreneurial thinking, which I hope this award will encourage.“

In addition to the prize money, the Town Council have partnered with Axis Magazine and Hertfordshire Mercury who will both offer the winner an editorial write up.

This new award has been designed to highlight and recognise Hertford’s entrepreneurial talent. This competition is suited to small to medium sized businesses that are able to demonstrate the entrepreneurial aptitude, commercial acumen, vision, ambition and drive to build a successful business.

Entrepreneurs must either work or live in Hertford to apply and are able to download an application form online from www.hertford.gov.uk/hertford-entrepreneurs-network/

The closing date for entries is Friday 5th February 2016.

Following the closing date, applications will be shortlisted where those who are in with a chance of being crowned ‘Hertford Entrepreneur of the Year’ will present their answers to a panel of judges at Hertford Castle on Tuesday 23rd February 2016.

Three finalists will then be selected to present live at the Awards Ceremony at Hertford Castle in front of a live audience and judges on Wednesday 9th March 2016.

The winner will receive the £3000 cash prize, editorial support and become crowned Hertford Entrepreneur of the Year.

The two runners up will each receive the following:
A Website SEO Audit provided by Zoocha worth £1,500+VAT.
Zoocha will provide a comprehensive technical audit of your website to evaluate your level of search engine optimisation and identify opportunities to enhance your SEO performance.

Isabel Sigmac, the Chairman of Hertford Entrepreneurs said: “This award is the only one recognising entrepreneurs who are based in and around Hertford. Not only we will be celebrating those who are established but those silent ones who has the potential to make it big. I am really looking to discover what the applicants have to say about what makes them tick and how they achieve success. This is a great opportunity to win the Hertford Entrepreneur of the Year award and the winner will get a cash prize of £3,000.”

The fourteen Winning Windows entries were judged by the Mayor of Hertford on Monday 23rd November. The theme for 2015 was the ’12 Days of Christmas’.

The Mayor of Hertford, Cllr Dr Linda Radford said:
“It was very difficult to choose the three winners because there was such a high standard and people had made a great effort. I would like to thank everyone who took part to make the town look so festive and attractive to shop in. I hope everyone will agree that those I chose were beautiful and did really demonstrate the 12 days of Christmas.”

First prize was awarded to Abel of Hertford who won a trophy and theatre tickets to the Christmas Pantomime (donated by Hertford Theatre)

Abel of Hertford said:
“We are so ecstatic that we have won first prize in the '12 days of Christmas' window display competition! We would like to say what an honour it is and such a great start for us settling into our new business in Hertford town. It was a lot of work but well worth it, what spurred us on more than anything, was the idea of creating some Christmas magic for the children of Hertford, young and old! Thank you for the opportunity and we will start planning next year’s Windows now!”

Second prize was awarded to The Creative Sanctuary who won two tickets for any Hertford Corn Exchange event.

The Creative Sanctuary said:
"We are so pleased to be recognised by the judges for our Christmas windows this year. It was a team effort and I’d like to give special thanks to Kym Gentle and her fantastic sewing skills. We have had loads of lovely comments from our customers."

Third prize was awarded to The Beauty Room who won a £10 gift voucher for The Oak Room.

The Beauty Room said:
'’Our window displays the magic of Christmas, snowy musical notes and the sound of the violin as it's 'The 12 Days of Christmas'. Beautiful gifts are wrapped for you and all the family to come and see!”

For the second year in a row, Serendipity Foods were crowned the Cheerful Trader of the Year.
Serendipity received over 100 entries from the public who remarked how welcoming the staff are.

Carla Duffield from Serendipity said:
“Myself & the team at serendipity are once again so very pleased and thankful for winning the Cheerful Trader award. To win twice in a row is an amazing achievement, especially as there have been so many other cafes and coffee shops for people to go to. We would like to thank all of our lovely customers for taking the time to vote for us over the past few weeks as it means so much to have our work rewarded in this way.”

“The annual ‘Think Christmas Think Hertford’ Christmas shopping day will also be taking place the day after the Gala, on Saturday 28th November, making for a great couple of days to focus on Christmas shopping in Hertford ”.
