Hertford Town Council is delighted to be hosting Eco Fest at Hertford Castle as part of a wider programme of townwide sustainability events. These events are designed to raise awareness of the small changes we can all make to reduce our carbon footprint, while protecting and enhancing our natural environment. The Council is looking forward to uniting Hertford in this vital and positive communal purpose.

Hertford Food Swap, meeting at BEAM Theatre

Saturday 3rd May starting at 10:30am

Join the Hertford Food Swap on the first Saturday of the month, 10:30am-11:30am, on the ground floor of BEAM. Meet other foodies, share your love of food & take home produce lovingly made, brewed or grown!

*Disclaimer for Allotment Plot Holders, plot holders at Hertford Town Council managed allotments should not bring produce grown on their plot to the food swap. please check your allotment rules and regulations regarding attending food swaps*

Pinehurst Community Event, meeting at Pinehurst Community Centre 

Sunday 4th May starting at 1pm

Join Kingsmead Resident's Association for an afternoon of activities including tidying up the Community Garden and litter picking around Pinehurst. Come along for an opportunity to eet your neighbours and chat to local groups and charities. Meet at Pinehurst Community Centre before each activity. 

1.00pm: Community Garden tidy up

2.00pm: Litterpick around Pinehurst

3:00pm: Refreshments and social at Pinehurst Community Centre

Hertfordshire Health Walk, Hartham Common

Sunday 4th May at 2pm

Enjoy the local green spaces are Hartham Common with FREE Hertfordshire Health Walks led by friendly volunteers!

Meet by the bench near Hartham Leisure Centre, Hertford, SG14 1QR.  

(Toilets and refreshments are available to purchase in the Leisure Centre.)

Churchyard Trails, St Mary's Church

OCEAN with David Attenborough, Screening at BEAM

Thursday 8th May at 8pm

OCEAN with David Attenborough takes viewers on a breathtaking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean. 

The celebrated broadcaster and filmmaker reveals how his lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery. Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing. Screening in cinemas with theatrically exclusive footage.

Thieves Lane Community Garden, Volunteer Day 

Saturday 10th May at 2pm 

Junction of Bentley Rd/Windsor Drive, Hertford, United Kingdom

Seasonally appropriate gardening tasks, with a friendly and welcoming group of regular volunteers. No experience necessary as guidance can be given if needed. Tools can be made available for use but if you have them, gardening gloves are highly recommended. Volunteers on site from 2pm - 4pm. Hertford Eco Fest is here!

Designed to raise awareness of the small changes we can all make to reduce our carbon footprint, while protecting and enhancing our natural environment, Hertford Town Council is looking forward to hosting it's first ever Eco Fest; a wonderful community event that will be lots of fun for the whole family, uniting Hertford in this vital and positive communal purpose.

This FREE event will be held at Hertford Castle on Sunday 11th May from 12 noon till 4.00pm. Visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of fun activities on the main lawn including:

  •  Garden Games
  •  Smoothie Bike - pedal to make your own smoothie! 
  •  E-bike display - test ride with Highway Cycles.
  •  Live entertainment from local musicians plus live pop-up theatre with 'William Wormsworth and Wormarie" storytelling sessions:
  •  Information and education around money saving ideas and carbon reduction suggestions.
  •  Talks and workshops covering the benefits of repairs, composting and much more!
  •  Food & Drink

Plus, head inside the Castle for the following:

  • Hertford Eco Quilt
  • Climate Café
  • With Integrity

OCEAN with David Attenborough takes viewers on a breathtaking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean. Screening in cinemas with theatrically exclusive footage.

This screening will be followed by a talk from Prof. Viv Jones, Emeritus Professor of Environmental Change at UCL, examining the success of recent monitoring and restoration efforts on the River Beane, a local but globally rare chalk stream.
