This performance mixes Baroque with contemporary, surrounding one of Bach's towering masterpieces, Cello Suite No 2 in D Minor. We'll discover what makes this such a special instrument in the hands of a dedicated artist.
Regarded as one of the most important viola da gamba players of his generation, Ibrahim Aziz describes how his beloved instrument has fascinated composers, players, musicians and audiences for hundreds of years. Its plangent, silvery tones, gentler and less forthright than the cello's, were said to resemble the human voice.
