Events: 75th Anniversary of VE Day at Hertford Castle Hertford Castle, 08/05/2020 , doors open at 12:00
An event to mark the 75th Anniversary of VE day will be held at Hertford Castle to celebrate the end of World War II.
With exhibitions, photos and story board detailing the lives of local Hertfordshire WWII soldiers, and other exhibitions of artefacts and memorabilia from the war.
Old fashioned games, live music and entertainment reminiscent of the era will entertain the crowds, as well as vintage cars. Indulge in afternoon tea as you enjoy the afternoon.
To mark the occasion, join Civic Dignitaries and the rest of the world when the Battle’s O’er will be played at 3pm outside with a national toast to the heroes of World War II. Hertford Castle will be open for the first time this year, where the public can explore the Castle and its grounds for free.
Note: Hertford Castle will close at 2.50pm with the last entry at 2.35pm.

The event is FREE of charge to attend, you are however welcome to donate to the Mayor of Hertford’s Charity Appeal Fund. This year’s charities are Carers in Hertfordshire and Herts Young Homeless.
The Castle grounds can be accessed by foot at any of the following pedestrian gates, Castle Street, St Andrew Street Car Park, Main Castle Gate off The Wash, through the Moat Garden on Castle Street, or the gate off of Gascoyne Way.
There is no parking at Hertford Castle (including disabled) but there are a number of car parks close to the Castle which are free to use on Sundays. Please click here

Toilets are located to the side of the main lawn on the footpath by the Ashley Webb Shelter.
Disabled toilets & baby changing facilities are available inside the castle, please speak to a volunteer on the door for access.
First aid is located on the river bank by the Ashley Webb shelter.
