Guidelines & Criteria

1. Grants will normally be given only to individuals and bodies resident in or serving the area of the Parish Boundary of Hertford Town. Grants should represent assistance with projects of local use or should be seen to have clear local benefit to the population of Hertford.

2. Grants will be given in accordance with the relevant Local Government Acts.

3. Grant applications will, in the case of organisations, normally only be considered when accompanied by one of the following - Audited Accounts, Accounts which have been subjected to independent inspection as required by the Charities Act or, in the case of a newly formed organisation, a case for funding including supporting evidence of fund raising efforts.

4. The Council will not normally award grants to Educational establishments, Churches or Religious Groups.

5. Grant applications from individuals will be considered providing grants have charitable or educational purposes linked with recognised bodies acceptable to the Council, are seen to be of local benefit through information dissemination and would be likely to encourage inspiration and motivation of applicants' peer groups.

6. The Council will normally expect to distribute grants to a variety of organisations, which, in practice, may mean a lesser amount awarded than that applied for.

7. The Categories of grants are:
Town events: (Art & music events, fun day etc) maximum £1,200
Capital or one off grants maximum £1,200
Small Grants to Organisations or Individuals (including regular support) maximum £500

8. Applications to be made by letter to Hertford Town Council.

9. Normally, only one grant per year will be made to each applicant. Applicants are not precluded from applying for a Small Grant or Town Event grant aid annually.

10. Grant applications will be considered on two occasions in 2008/09. In subsequent years small grants will be considered on two occasions and the large grants at the March meeting, although, in exceptional circumstances, Large Grants may be considered at any of the relevant Committee meetings. The relevant meeting and application dates will be determined for each civic year.

11. The Council will require formal acknowledgement of receipt of grant aid from all Organisations awarded Grants and, in the case of Individuals, will normally require a report of the project, visit or other activity for which the grant was awarded.
